Raipur, September 04, 2012: Several Congress workers were injured today after they clashed with the police during CM house gherao agitation by the opposition to press Raman Singh to resign from the Chief Ministership for alleged irregularities in allotment of coal blocks from the state.
“A total of 31297 workers and leaders were arrested at 16 places of the Raipur city during the agitation,” PCC Spokesman Shailesh Nitin Trivedi told reporters here.
He also claimed that the agitation was peaceful and unnecessarily Police baton-charged several party workers at Katora Talab and injured them seriously.
“Since commonmen also joined the Congress in expressing their feelings against the Raman Government, the state BJP government used police forces unsuccessfully to try and silence that voice,” alleged Trivedi and several leaders.
Addressing party workers, PCC President Nand Kumar Patel demanded resignation of Chief Minister owing moral ground for the alleged coal scam in the state and added the people of the state have decided this time to vote against the alleged ‘corrupt’ state BJP Government.
Union Minister Charan Das Mahant claimed the state government was involved in selling jal, jangal, jamin (water, forest and land) and mineral of the state.
Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Ravindra Choubey said today’s gathering has proved the count down against the Raman Government has started in the state.
Veteran Congress leader Vidya Charan Shukla called upon the party workers and leaders to start a deciding fight against the state BJP government to vote that out.
Congress had called for cordoning off of the official residence of the Chief Minister claiming companies of some BJP leaders and others were favoured in allotment of coal blocks, although they were not fulfilling the criteria.
