Raipur, April 29, 2026: Under the first phase of Census 2027, the field operations for house listing and the enumeration of houses in Chhattisgarh will be conducted from May 1 to May 30, 2026.

Reviewing the progress of preparations, logistical arrangements, and implementation in this regard, State Census Director Kartikeya Goel stated that, this time, census data is being collected through a mobile application; therefore, every entry must be recorded with the utmost care. Any error or negligence could impact future policies and schemes; consequently, a high level of responsibility and vigilance is essential for this task.

Census Director Goel directed that proper training for enumerators and supervisors be ensured across all districts. During the field operations, special emphasis is to be placed on data collection methodologies, the usage of digital devices, and addressing potential challenges.  Furthermore, it must be ensured that no area is left uncovered during the enumeration process, nor is any area subjected to duplication.

During the meeting, instructions were issued to provide photo-bearing identity cards to all enumerators and supervisors to prevent any confusion among the general public. Additionally, emphasis was placed on issuing necessary directives to Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) in large residential colonies and apartment complexes—located within urban local bodies and adjacent rural areas—to facilitate the smooth conduct of census operations.

Instructions were given to develop an effective monitoring mechanism for the regular oversight of the work, with a directive to ensure that any technical issues or obstacles that may arise are resolved promptly.

Emphasizing the importance of public awareness, Goyal directed that citizens be sensitized about the census through local media, social media, and public relations activities, encouraging them to voluntarily provide accurate and complete information.

Furthermore, social media platforms are to be continuously monitored to immediately refute any misleading information or fake news. For the convenience of citizens, a facility to contact the toll-free number 1855 has also been made available.

In conclusion, Census Director Goel expressed his expectation that all officials would discharge this significant national responsibility with complete dedication, coordination, and accountability, and successfully complete the task within the stipulated timeframe.

Goel held a meeting via video conferencing with all District Collectors, Municipal Commissioners, and key Census officials. Officials from the Home Department were also present at the meeting.
