Jagdalpur, January 06, 2025: Main accused in the Bijapur Journalist Mukesh Chandrakar case Contractor Suresh Chandrakar has been arrested, police said today.
Suresh Chandrakar was arrested late last night from Hyderabad, Bijapur police said.
Suresh is being interrogated, they said.
Body of Mukesh Chandrakar was recovered from the premises of the contractor Suresh Chandrakar at Bijapur district headquarters.
Mukesh Chandrakar, who was reporting for NDTV and had worked with News18, was missing from January 1, 2025 night and his brother Yukesh Chandrakar had filed a missing report also with the Bijapur police.
The body of Mukesh Chandrakar was found in the premises of a contractor Suresh Chandrakar in Chattanpara area of Bijapur district headquarters on January 03 last, Bijapur police has said.
His last location was traced to Chattanpara and on seeing fresh cemented works, on suspicion police removed that to find the body of Chandrakar inside a septic tank.
Police said the deceased Mukesh Chandrakar and one of the accused Ritesh Chandrakar are relatives and on January 1, 2025 at about 8 PM, the deceased and Ritesh had a telephonic talk and after that, the journalist went to the premises of the contractor for a dinner.
During the meeting, the accused complaints, despite they are relatives, Mukesh, instead of helping them was creating obstacles to their work and in a planned manner all the three accused attacked him, giving injuries on his head, chest, abdomen and backside with iron rods because of that the journalist died on the spot, police claimed.
To hide the killing, his body was dumped in the septic tank and was covered with cemented slab, the police said.
Bijapur police had already arrested Ritesh Chandrakar from Raipur Airport and two others Mahindra Ramteke and Dinesh Chandrakar were arrested from Bijapur in connection with the murder of Mukesh.
