Raipur, July 13, 2026: The registration process for the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme) for the 2026 Kharif season in Chhattisgarh began on July 12, with the final deadline set for July 31, 2026.

The State Agriculture Department has urged all eligible farmers to insure their crops on time, without waiting for the July 31 deadline, to protect themselves against natural disasters and weather uncertainties during the Kharif season.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of irregular or deficient rainfall in the state this year due to the impact of El Niño. In such a scenario, crop insurance will serve as a robust safety net for farmers against potential losses.

Under the scheme, farmers in the state can insure 11 types of crops. These include notified crops such as paddy (irrigated and unirrigated), maize, soybean, pulses and oilseeds (arhar/pigeon pea, groundnut, moong, urad), and coarse grains/millets (kodo, kutki, and ragi).

Farmers can contact their local Rural Agricultural Extension Officer for precise information regarding notified crops in their village, officials said.

Farmers who have availed agricultural loans can register through their respective banks or financial institutions.

Farmers without outstanding loans can apply online through banks, financial institutions, Common Service Centers (Lok Seva Kendras), insurance intermediaries, or directly via the Government of India’s official portal. Assistance can also be sought from the Agriculture Department’s field staff.

Keeping the broader interests of farmers in mind, the state government has included coverage for risks across four key stages in this insurance scheme. Compensation will be available for prevented sowing (inability to sow), failure of planting/transplanting, localized calamities (such as hailstorms, waterlogging, etc.), and post-harvest losses (damage based on yield).

The Agriculture Department has clarified that if crops suffer damage due to any disaster, it is mandatory for farmers to report the loss within 72 hours. This can be done by calling the Government of India’s toll-free number 14447 (Krishi Rakshak Portal and Helpline).

Additionally, farmers may inform their local Agriculture Department, Revenue Department, concerned bank, or insurance company within the stipulated timeframe.
