Raipur, May 2, 2009: A major fire broke out late last night in the vegetable wholesale market here destroying over Rs 20 lakh properties of 270 shop owners.
Local shop owners claimed after a clash between a shop owner and another person, some people allegedly set his shop on fire and that spread to other areas and damaged as many as 270 shops.
The local shop owners also complaint to the ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com that the fire tenders here took sufficient times to reach the spot, resulting in more damage to the properties of the poor vendors.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh today expressed concern over the damage of properties and directed the officials to pay compensation to the affected people. He had also directed the officials to ascertain the cause of fire.
Raipur District Collector Subodh Kumar Singh had visited the affected areas with his officials and ordered for immediate assistance of Rs 5.5 lakh to the affected shop owners, officials said.
