Jagdalpur, September 26, 2009: Even before completion of 24 hours of the departure of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram from Chhattisgarh, Maoists today targeted one of the prominent tribal leaders of ruling BJP Baliram Kashyap and shot dead on of his son and injuring another.
“Tansen Kashyap is dead and Dinesh Kashyap is said to be stable,” officials told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com here.
Baliram’s another son Kedar Kashyap is a cabinet Minister for PHE and Tribal Welfare in the Raman Singh Cabinet.
After completing the Astami Puja at Bedaguda, a village on the National Highway 43 near Bhanpuri, about 30 Km from Jagdalpur, when the entire Kashyap family was returning back the incident took place, officials said.
Four youths came in cycles and opened fire three rounds from a close range on Tansen. Bullets hit his head and chest. When his brother Dinesh came forward he received one bullet on his shoulder, police said. The incident took place when Baliram and Kedar left the temple with their security guards.
After the incident the assailants slipped away from the scene without any resistance from the people present there, they said.
Immediately both of them were rushed to Maharani Hospital where Tansen was declared dead.
It is a great blow on the Raman Government and the ruling BJP as the attack on the Kashyap family would create a fear of insecurity among the common man.
Tansen was the Bastar Janpad (Block) Chairman, whereas Dinesh is the President of the Bastar District Cooperative Central Bank.
When contacted, Police Spokesman R K Vij was not available for comment.
