Raipur, September 25, 2016: Chhattisgarh government today categorically denied that any pistol was recovered from the suitcase of the Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh during his Kozhikode visit to attend the BJP National Executive.
“The news of recovery of pistol from the suitcase of the Chief Minister is totally baseless,” Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister N Baijendra Kumar said.
“This information is totally wrong and baseless and is far from truth,” he said in a statement.
Chhattisgarh Director General of Police A N Upadhyaya spoke to his Kerala counterpart, who in return denied any such incident has ever taken place, the release said.
The English daily, who had carried a related story, has also been informed about the fact in that regard, Baijendra Kumar said.
The Deccan Chronicle ran the story with caption Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh arrives with weapons in Kozhikode and promptly Chhattisgarh Janata Congress (Jogi) leader Amit Jogi issued a statement asking why the Chief Minister never declared he has weapons and despite having Z-Plus security why the CM felt the need to carry his personal weapons.
“When the hotel staff put his (Dr Raman Singh) suitcases under the scanner, their eyes popped out seeing several pistols neatly put amid his starched kurta and pyjamas. Since Mr Singh faces the Maoist threat, he is always under Z Plus category security,” claimed the news paper.
However, the state government today clarified that the news of recovery of pistol from the suitcase of the Chief Minister was totally wrong, baseless and far from truth.
