     Raipur, February 23, 2009: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh today congratulated the cast and crew members of the Slumdog Millionaire for getting the Oscars.

      The Oscar awards to such a movie has indeed increased the reputation and respect of Indian film industry and the country, the Chief Minister said reacting to the rain of Oscar awards on Slumdog Millionaire earlier in the day.

     On one part the film portrayed the sorrow and struggle of slum dwellers to create sensitivity of the society towards them and on the hand it had attempted to create aspiration and confidence among those people through the movie, he said.

      The “Slumdog” was the big winner. Besides Best Picture and Best Director, the film also earned Oscars for Cinematography, Sound Mixing, Film Editing, Original Score and Song.

     Shot on a modest budget of 15 million US dollars, the film was orphaned at one point when it was dropped by financier Warner Independent Pictures, a division of Warner Bros. Fox Searchlight Pictures ultimately rescued the film and released it in November and the rest was history.
