Unified command discuss ways to combat Maoists

     Raipur, August 10, 2009: Several top central, state and para military forces officials today met here to re-draft strategies to combat Maoist menace in Chhattisgarh.

     Chairing a meeting of the Unified Command, Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh asked both the state and the Central forces to work in a more coordinated manner.

     The state government had not provided any details of the meeting and police officials are tightlipped over its outcome.

     Singh is the Chairman of the Unified Command, which met here after a long gap and in the back drop of the case of killing of the first IPS officer, and SP Rajnandgaon V K Choubey, in the hand of naxalites in Chhattisgarh.

      The meeting also discussed the intelligence inputs in the presence of the senior officials from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Central Para Military Forces (CRPF).

     However, sources claimed despite meeting between the top officials from both the state and the centre, some of the grievances of the CRPF remained unresolved.

     The CRPF had complaint to the cabinet secretariat and other central officials of lack of coordination from the state police and had even cited two instances, in which the DG CRPF was in the war zone of Bastar range but the police headquarters had given a very lukewarm response to the need of the central forces.
