Raipur, February 03, 2013: In a major attempt to improve the economic condition of farmers, Chhattisgarh government has disbursed Rs 1687 crore agriculture loan with only one per cent rate of interest.
After the Raman Government reduced the rate of interest to a meager one per cent, a huge number of farmers have taken advantage of the scheme to improve their economic condition, official sources told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com today.
Since 80 per cent of the population of Chhattisgarh is dependent on agriculture, the state took several steps to reduce the input cost of farming, the officials said.
Funding was a bigger problem for agriculture and to address that issue the state government had reduced the rate of interest to a meager one per cent for agriculture loan, they said.
Because of that, nearly ten lakh farmers have taken loan to improve their condition, the officials said.
“A total of 9,45,349 farmers of various primary agriculture cooperative societies have been benefitted from this one per cent interest scheme,” the officials said.
“The farmers have taken a total of Rs 1687 crore loan during this Kharif season,” they said.
The state government plans to give Rs 400 crore of loan during this Rabi season, the officials said adding out of this target a total of Rs 150 crore have already been disbursed.
