Raipur, July 7, 2009: Chhattisgarh Administration has declared Raipur as a water scarcity district, officials said today.

Looking into the insufficient rain fall this season, Raipur District Collector Sanjay Garg has declared Raipur as a Water scarcity district, officials said.

The Entire district has been put under the order from July 1 to September 30, 2009 to ensure availability of safe drinking water in the area, they said.

After the Water Scarcity order is in force, the individuals and organisations cannot dig new tube wells in the district and to do so one has to obtain permission from the administration.

In fact the Administration had clamped a ban on new tube wells from April 22 to June 30, 2009 considering the hot summer spell and the delay in monsoon has forced the Administration to invoke the 1986 Drinking Water Conservation Act to declare the District as a Water Scarcity area, they said.
