Raipur, July 22, 2009: Chhattisgarh Government would bring in a legislation in the monsoon session of the state assembly, starting today, to allow the parents, who have more than two children to contest the coming Municipality elections.
The state government has decided to repeal that Act of two child norm and for that a bill would be tabled in the Monsoon session, starting today, officials said.
After a lot of debate the State government had last year abolished the two child norm for the Panchayat Elections and now it was being considered for the urban local bodies, they said.
As per the rule, anyone having more than two children cannot become a member of the local bodies. Many of the elected Panchayat representatives had lost their seat because of that law and that had become a hot topic for discussion in various forums to strengthen the Panchayat Raj system in the state.
The Municipality election is expected to be held later in the year.
