Raipur, April 21, 2011: Chhattisgarh Congress today complaint to the Election Commission against the state ruling BJP of violating model code of conduct for the May 8 Bastar Lok Sabha by-poll.
In a written complaint to the Election Commission, the Congress party today said the BJP government in the state was trying to lure the voters to get the mandate in its favour.
When the electioneering was on, the state government through advertisements said “A provision has been made to provide one kg of Chick pea to each of the 4.85 lakh poor tribal families with a provision of Rs 12 crore”.
“Through such advertisements, the state BJP government is trying to lure the voters, so that they could vote in favour of the BJP candidate,” the Congress party said in its letter.
Such thing was a clear violation of the model code of conduct on the part of the BJP, the Congress said and demanded an immediate ban on any such government advertisements to ensure a free and fair election.
The by-election to the Bastar Lok Sabha election would be held on May 8, for which both the BJP and Congress have already started their campaign for their candidates Dinesh Kashyap and Kawashi Lakhma respectively.
