Raipur, July 29, 2010: Champion of the Re 1 rice scheme, the BJP government in Chhattisgarh was today completely outsmart by the opposition on the issue of providing subsidised rice to the families living above the poverty line.
The main opposition Congress demanded the Raman Government to provide the APL family subsidised rice in the rate of foodgrain being provided to the BPL in the state.
Food Minister Punnulal Mohile today moved a resolution in the state assembly asking the centre to provide 61,000 tonnes of rice and 40 tonnes of wheat every month to the state for the people living above poverty line (APL).
However, leader of opposition Ravindra Choubey opposed that saying the government was asking for the additional quota to be involved in irregularities.
The opposition also demanded a reply from the government what action it had taken against the people involved in foodgrain scam in the state.
Momd Akbar of Congress also asked why the state did not lift its quota of rice and wheat from the central pool and was now crying.
He also said if the state government announces to provide rice and wheat to the APL family at the same rate of the BPL than they would support it unanimously.
When they saw the treasury bench was silent on the issue, Leader of Opposition said he condemns the attitude of the government and the Congress members staged a walkout from the house.
