Model Code in force with immediate effect

     New Delhi, March 05, 2014: With the announcement of poll schedule for 542 Lok Sabha constituencies of of India, the model code of conduct was immediately in force in the country.

      The Election Commission of India today announced a 9-phase polls with counting on May 16, 2014.

      “Consequent on the announcement of the Schedule for the General

Elections the Model Code of Conduct comes into operation with immediate

effect from today itself in the entire country,” said the Election Commission.

      “This will also be applicable to all Political Parties and to the Union and State Governments and UT Administrations,” it added.
