     Raipur, January 12, 2014: Chhattisgarh Governor Shekhar Dutt today appointed S C Sharma as the Vice Chancellor of Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekananda Technical University, Bhilai.

      The Governor, who is also the Chancellor has appointed in place of present V C Dr B C Mal.

     Mal is due to retire on February 10, 2014.

     Sharma is presently Chief Mentor at BMS Institute of Technology & BMS School of Architecture, Bangalore.

     He has earlier worked as Vice Chancellor of Tumkur University and Vice Chairman, Karnataka State Higher Education Council, Government of Karnataka.

      Sharma has obtained his Bachelor in Engineering (Mechanical 1984) and M.E. (1988) form Bangalore University and Ph.D. (1991) from University of Mysore.

     He was the Principal of RV College of Engineering of Karnataka.

     Sharma was a member of State Planning Board (Government of Karnataka), Director of Centre of Manufacturing Research and Technology Utilization (CMRTU), Centre for Social Service and Skills Promotion (SKIP), Vice-Chancellor of Tumkur University, Tumkur (May 2009-May 2013) and Vice-Chairman, Karnataka State Higher Education Council, Government of Karnataka (October 2010-June 2013).

     He has been conferred with doctoral degrees from ten Universities based on thesis submission. He has also been conferred with Honoris Causa, like Doctor of Literature for Education and Social Service (Mangalore University, 2007), Doctor of Science (Avinashilingam University for Women, 2005), Doctor of Letters for Education and Social Service (Karnataka University, 2008) and Doctor of Science (Kuvempu University, 2009), according to a state government release.
