Kondagaon/Jagdalpur, January 24, 2012: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh today formally inaugurated the Kondagaon district, which was carved out from Bastar district.
A distinct feature of the new district was its demographic pattern.
The new district has a population of one lakh more women compared to its male group.
Out of a total population of 5,76,977, Kondagaon district has 2,93,897 women and 2,83,076 male where as others four, officials said.
Addressing a gathering, the Chief Minister said the voice of Bastar can not be suppressed.
During his tenure Bijapur and Narayanpur were previously created as districts and currently Sukma and Kondagaon were made separate revenue units, taking the total number of districts in Bastar division to seven, Singh said.
Ministers Lata Usendi, Vikram Usendi, Kedar Kashyap and Rajesh Munat were also present in that function.
