Raipur, December 24, 2010: A local court in Raipur today convicted eminent rights activist Dr Binayak Sen, Maoists leader Narayan Sanyal and businessman Peejus Guha on charges of sedition, unlawful activities and Chhattisgarh Special Public Security Act.
Sessions Judge Raipur B P Verma convicted Dr Sen, Sanyal and Guha in the presence of the family members and friends of the convicted and their lawyers.
However, the court acquitted all of them on charge of waging war against India.
The sentence would be announced in the post lunch session.
When the judge said all the three are being convicted on 124 (A) of IPC and other charges, Dr Sen wanted to know what was Section 124 (A) IPC.
When the judge asked the advocates for the accused to put forth their points about the amount of sentences, advocate Hasim Khan, appearing for Sanyal, said since they have not accepted the charges, how can they argue about the quantum of punishment?
Subsequently the judge adjourned the court and said after some time he would announce the amount of sentences.
