Korba, June 29, 2009: West Bengal Police has arrested an absconding Jawan of Indian Army for allegedly kidnapping a senior official of South Eastern Coalfield Limited in Korba.
Krishna Singh has been arrested by the Durgapur District Police of West Bengal, who allegedly kidnapped Technical Inspector of Rani Atari Project of SECL Jagdish Prasad Mishra on February 24, 2008 and subsequently killing his son, who had gone to pay the ransom amount, Korba District Superintendent of Police Ratan Lal Dangi said here today.
SDOP Kathghora Mukti Tirkey and Station House Officer S R Dhritlehere have left for Durgapur after hearing the arrest, Dangi said.
While returning back from Transport Nagar, Korba, after servicing his car, Mishra was kidnapped on February 24, 2008 and subsequently his abductors had demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh, police said.
When his son Rahul had gone to the spot to pay ransom he was also killed, police said adding police team had been sent to various places of Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal to trace the Technical Official, but all proved futile.
Police claimed Singh had allegedly confessed having kidnapped Mishra on direction of a local person of Korba, but said he was unaware about the whereabouts of the SECL official as he had handed over Mishra to one Surjeet Singh of Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh and after that he had no information about him.
