Raipur, November 30, 2012: Ramniwas, the new Director General of Police of Chhattisgarh, today appealed to the Maoists to leave violence and return to the mainstream of development.
“I appeal to the youth to join the main stream of development leaving Maoism,” Ramniwas said in his first ever press conference after taking over charges as the Director General of Police of Chhattisgarh.
Chhattisgarh Police will also protect the human rights of its citizen with in the frame work of the Constitution and the law, he said.
However, replying to a question the DGP said the Maoists issue could be resolved with the cooperation of the people and guidance of the State and the Central governments.
“We have accepted many challenges in the past and will continue doing that,” Ramniwas said.
Public, Police and Press are the important parts of democracy and he would work towards maintaining the democratic values in the state, the new DGP said.
The 1982 batch IPS officer has replaced Anil M Navaney as the DGP on retirement of the latter.
On this occasion, he also remembered his teachers, elders and all those, who had taught him policing.
Ramniwas was previously posted as the Special Director General of Chhattisgarh Armed Force and Anti-Maoists operation before posted as the DGP.
